Hinchinbrook Island

Munamudanamy - Hinchinbrook Island - is Australia's largest island national park, its status declared in 1932. At nearly 400 square kilometres the island is a tropical wilderness filled with diverse landscapes, flora, and fauna. Outside of the ruins of small resort on the most northerly point, and a shelter shed and water tank at Macushla Beach there are no houses or roads.

The mountain ranges on the island include several peaks over 900 metres, with Mount Bowen the highest at 1142 metres. Along the eastern side of the island is a walking track - the 32 kilometre long Thorsbourne Trail. Once used by park rangers, surveyors, and the occasional local having a look-see, it is now a highly rated four day bush walk. Zoe Bay on the south eastern coast has been a legendary destination for yachties for many decades.
